Be Unapologetically Unashamed

Merriam Webster defines gratitude as the quality of being thankful. I am intrigued by this word “quality” in the definition. Quality is a measure of excellence, a richness, it implies the best, it is free from defect. Gratitude is giving the best form of thanks.
There is an intelligible feature that makes a thank you more than a mere thank you and turns it into gratitude: the heart. Gratitude is high quality appreciation that involves feeling.
To be thankful is to be mindful and take notice of “the little things” all around us. Thankfulness always has a giver and a receiver. Someone or something caused the appreciation exchange. Gratitude, on the other hand, is the feeling or the sense of being. With gratitude you are always in that state of appreciation. It is about more than the gift…it’s about the thought behind the gift.
I can sum it up to say that gratitude is this feeling that I feel in my heart. When someone gives me a gift or does something for me I immediately go into a gracious space. I think about the thought behind the gift. I think about the time behind the gift. I think about the sacrifice that may have occurred in order to give the gift. I am reminded of my love language and my tank is filled. I feel it in my heart, I value the gift and honor the person for their kindness and thoughtfulness.
I have been given many tangible gifts and I am sure you have as well. But can we take a moment to think of the intangible gifts that we have received? The gift of life, love, the pursuit of happiness, forgiveness and grace. Think about those things and the giver of those things and rest there when life tries to distract you.
